The Subtractive Mentality


Hi Peeps,

Some people think subtractive is bad since it sounds like the inverse of addition. Attempting to discover what works for you may be really daunting, and if you're not cautious, you might end up taking on too much because you feel like you're not getting enough done.

Feeling overwhelmed is normal; the key is to find a way to cope with it before it gets the best of you. A flood of information regarding what to do next, when to do it, how to do it, and what to do that will work better and provide more results might overwhelm someone who is unclear of what to do next.  When we feel like we're falling short of our goals, our first instinct is to take on additional work. However, the real problem might be that we're already juggling too much. In this case, a subtractive mindset is required to discover ways to liberate resources and channel them in a direction that yields better outcomes. 

Weighing your remaining activities, you'll need to decide which ones to cut from your list in order to make a strong impact with the ones you can still do. 

Minimalism promotes self-discipline, concentration, and originality by consciously clearing the decks for what really matters.

Lessening mental clutter and focusing on what's truly important are two benefits of adopting a subtractive mindset.  Gaining steam allows you to cover more ground in the area you've decided to call home. As your limited resources are directed towards the most productive areas, you improve your efficiency.
